Three km to the west-northwest of the village of St-Amable are widespread exposures of a composite sill up to 13 m thick emplaced in Ordovician shales. Other outcrops occur to the west and southwest, particularly along the east bank of the St Lawrence River, but it is not clear if these represent the same sill. The rock is essentially a nepheline syenite of variable texture and grain size.
