These are two overlapping circular complexes emplaced in basement gneisses. The 12 km diameter Barur complex is composed mainly of rhyolitic lavas, ignimbrites and quartz porphyries with a few windows of peralkaline microgranite. The smaller El Sharif complex, which is overlain in the southwest by Nubian Sandstone, also has a central area of rhyolites that overlie a ring of peralkaline granite with a syenite porphyry chilled margin.
