The most northerly of the Bayuda Desert alkaline complexes El Sueifa is 5x10 km and rises to 80 m above the plain of basement rocks. The western part consists of a complex of trachytic dykes of predominantly north-northeasterly strike. The remainder of the complex comprises extrusive trachytic rocks that overlie directly the Precambrian basement gneisses. The trachytes are mainly lavas but breccias also occur, both being cut by trachytic dykes. There is a small stock of syenite porphyry towards the centre of the occurrence.
