Occurrence number:
151-00-020
Country:
South Africa
Region:
Pienaars River Alkaline Complex (Franspoort Line)
Location:
Longitude: 28.22, Latitude: -25.42
Carbonatite:
No

This plug intrudes Bushveld granite but its extent is not known because it is partly overlain by Karoo sediments. It comprises quartz-hornblende syenites but, although petrographic details have not been located, it is considered likely to be peralkaline.

Age:
An imprecise Rb-Sr isochron age of 1529±233 Ma was obtained on five whole rock samples, but this was improved to 1361±142 Ma by inclusion of data from feldspars separated from three of the rocks (Harmer, 1985).
