Volcanic rocks cover an area of about 8000 km2 in the Jabal Nuqay area but very little is known about them. They appear to be principally basaltic flows but 'nepheline basalt' is also reported (Goudarzi, 1970). Hunting Geology and Geophysics Ltd (1974) report that plugs consist of rocks containing olivine phenocrysts in a groundmass of titanaugite and nepheline, with labradorite present in some samples but always subordinate to nepheline. A few samples were rich in analcime and a fibrous zeolite.
