Kapatagni forms a flat, featureless plateau of about 130 km2 which ends to the east in scarps defining the rift, while a faulted inlier is obscured eastwards by basalts of the Emuruangogolak volcano. The succession includes trachyte lavas, welded tuffs, crystal and pumice tuffs and in one area some basaltic lavas.
