Age A K-Ar age of 1.1 Ma was obtained by Hedberg (1968 - quoted in Fitton, 1987) from a sample of basanite. Piper and Richardson (1972), based on numerous palaeomagnetic measurements, concluded that the whole island is younger than 0.7 Ma.
