The volcanic complex of San Andres-Tuxtla is some 50 km in diameter and dominated by an alkali basaltic series including picritic, basaltic, basanitic and hawaiitic types. Normative nepheline is usual but modal nepheline relatively rare (Robin, 1982, p. 25 and p. 461, no. VE 127).
