Alkaline Rocks and Carbonatites of the World

Setup during HiTech AlkCarb: an online database of alkaline rock and carbonatite occurrences

Bioko (Fernando Poo, Macias Nguema Biyogo)

Occurrence number:
Equatorial Guinea
Longitude: 8.67, Latitude: 3.5

Age A K-Ar age of 1.1 Ma was obtained by Hedberg (1968 - quoted in Fitton, 1987) from a sample of basanite. Piper and Richardson (1972), based on numerous palaeomagnetic measurements, concluded that the whole island is younger than 0.7 Ma.
