The volcanic neck of Cerro Cacalote on the Plaines de Chicontepec consists of a basanite of augite and olivine phenocrysts in a groundmass of bytownite and anorthite, titaniferous augite, nepheline and magnetite. Other volcanic edifices in the vicinity of Chicontepec consist of tephrites and basanites with nepheline, analcime and aegirine.
